Nicole & Kenji 11.11.11

On November 11th, 2011, Nicole & Kenji tied the knot in a simple beach house surrounded by their closest family and friends on the east side of Oahu. The day was highly emotional and filled to the brim with love, tears, laughter and joy. The day started off at Nicole’s house in Manoa where all of her girlfriends gathered for pupus and wine and got ready together. The girls took tons of photos and then headed into the limo for the long drive over to the other side of the island. It was almost a fiasco when they realized before even getting onto the Pali that there was no more champagne, but luckily shortly after, one of the girls discovered a secret compartment in the 1980’s limo that held the champagne stash. The entire limo gasped and started cheering.

Upon arrival, Erika, the wedding planner, instructed the girls on where to go and lead Nicole to her room where she was to wait for the ceremony to start. When it was time they headed towards the ceremony area where the flower girls and ring bearers started the long walk down to the ceremony area. Nic and her dad followed shortly after.

This was much more than the couples wedding day. 11.11.11 was something that the couple saw as their lucky number. They kissed every time they caught 11:11 on the clock and celebrated every 11th day of each month as they officially got together on Nov. 11th three years prior. Also, today – Nov. 11, 2011 – was Kenji, the grooms 31st birthday!

Joined by 120 of their closest friends and family, it was surely an event to remember. Filled with dancing, a full old fashioned candy bar, tears and heart-felt toasts, crazy bouquet tosses, a surprise bridal hula for her groom, and even a flash mob. There is no question 11.11.11 was Nicole & Kenji’s best day ever!

The bride had been practicing for months a surprise hula for her groom, choreographed by Kelehua Kauai to live music performed by the amazing – Mike Love! Look at the look on his face! Priceless.

Best Day Ever helped the bride create over 100 face masks of the groom which were hidden under all the guest tables. A surprise birthday cake for the groom came out right after the couple cut their wedding cake and all the guests sang “Happy Birthday” with their “Kenji faces” on. The look on his face.. was priceless.

The bride choreographed a 7 minute flash mob dance that started after the father daughter dance. She sent out a youtube video complete with instructions for all the guests to learn the special dance unsure of who would really participate. To her surprise, nearly all the guests were up on the dance floor getting down with all the choreographed moves. It was really amazing to watch. The groom was the only one who was out of the loop. Needless to say – he had a huge smile on his face the whole time – in awe of what was happening around him.

Hawaii Bridal Expo 2012

Over the weekend Best Day Ever had its first appearance at the Hawaii Wedding Expo held at the Neil Blaisdell Center in Honolulu. In preparation, we created a fully stocked Old Fashioned Candy Bar, mini german chocolate, french vanilla and fresh strawberry cupcakes with buttercream frosting, and vintage garters for newly engaged couples. Erika and I barely got any sleep last week preparing for this event and even coordinated matching outfits for each day. It being our first experience at the expo as a vendor we didn’t know what to expect. All we knew is that we had a quality product and were super excited to have the opportunity to help these soon to be brides and grooms.

The turn out was so much better than we had imagined. It felt as though our booth was constantly busy, we tried to make it a point to spend a little bit of time getting to know each bride and groom and felt as though in the process we met a ton of new friends. It was an absolute pleasure getting to know each of you! If you did stop by & we did somehow miss you we do apologize. We are slowly making our way through our email list to set up meetings. If you would like to set up a meeting with us sooner, please do not hesitate to send us an email at dropaline@bestdayeverhawaii.com today so we can set up a in person meeting. Of course, our first meetings are always free and even if you don’t book us, you will hopefully leave with a few good tips and some new friends.

Lastly, I’d just like to extend a HUGE thank you to all the vendors we got to meet at the expo who were so welcoming to us. It was such an amazing experience and we loved our section so much we secured the same area for the next expo. And a really big Mahalo to Charmaine – who took two days out of her schedule to help us with the booth. She even joined in the coordinating outfits! Charm – you are one of a kind, we cannot thank you enough;)

Now on to the good stuff, here are a few pics from our big debut:

How long does it take to get a Marriage Certificate in Hawaii?

The answer is… 60 – 120 days. You may write to the Dept. of Heath and request to obtain it sooner, however this is not guaranteed. There is a greater chance of getting it quicker if you say you need it for a specific reason – ie. Medical Insurance. You thought you would have to change your credit card names and bank account names all at once, but the truth is, there is no sense in trying to change anything until your marriage certificate is in hand. I suppose in the meantime, you may as well just sit back and enjoy your maiden name for a few months.

A Hawaii Bridal Shower: The Lovely Dwaynette

I helped to host a lovely Bridal Shower for soon to be bride – Dwaynette, this past Sunday, January 15, 2011. The shower was held at Waioli Tea Room in Manoa and hosted by Dway’s bridesmaids (Charmaine, Dwaylene, Lisa, & me).

For those of you have never been to Waioli Tea Room… you have to go! It is such a cute place. Located in the back of Manoa Valley, it is surrounded by what feels like a rain-forrest & beautiful hawaiian flowers – all in an intimate setting that afternoon tea parties – yes, i’m serious, tea parties. You can choose your choice of teas & petite sandwiches & desserts… Or just go with their regular menu, which is also really amazing! Waioli Tea Room is a little hidden gem, surrounded by a beautiful setting and made extra special with little vintage touches -everywhere.. plus, the food is spectacular. Think homemade guava sweet bread french toast with fresh whipped cream and maple syrup for breakfast and curried chicken salad sandwiches with homemade wheat bread for lunch, complete with freshly brewed lemon honey iced tea or coffee. Additionally they have rooms in the back that are perfect for bridal showers. I just learned that they also now do weddings. If your in the Manoa area on Oahu, you have to check this place out.

Ok, back to the bridal shower… Since Dway’s theme/colors for her wedding are deep plums/purples mixed with magentas and cherry blossoms, I decided to do the bridal shower decor with the same details. It began with the design of the Bridal Shower Invitation. I incorporated cherry blossoms to the corners and her colors of magenta and darker purples throughout. I used a fun font to encompass Dwaynette’s fun personality – and her LOVE of Cinnamon Girl (she is now manager at the Ward Warehouse store:) with her photo – How could I not include her photo – this girl should be a Cinnamon girl model, seriously.hawaii bridal shower, bridal shower, waioli tea room, dwaynette bridal shower, dwaynette hawaii bridal shower, bridal shower, waioli tea room, dwaynette bridal shower, dwaynette hawaii bridal shower, bridal shower, waioli tea room, dwaynette bridal shower, dwaynette hawaii bridal shower, bridal shower, waioli tea room, dwaynette bridal shower, dwaynette hawaii bridal shower, bridal shower, waioli tea room, dwaynette bridal shower, dwaynette hawaii bridal shower, bridal shower, waioli tea room, dwaynette bridal shower, dwaynette hawaii bridal shower, bridal shower, waioli tea room, dwaynette bridal shower, dwaynette hawaii bridal shower, bridal shower, waioli tea room, dwaynette bridal shower, dwaynette

To carry the design throughout the shower I had designed and framed a few signs for the tables of Dway and her fiancee Travis blending the magenta design into the edges of the photos to carry out the theme. I also designed her her photo and the cherry blossoms into her sign-in sheet and pen and completed the design with a fun hologram silver ribbon. Char had an idea to have prizes for the girls so I created a raffle box that mirrored the same design elements. To bring it all together, I added magenta boa feather pieces to the favors which had tags that matched the rest of the design and brought the magenta feathers into the centerpieces as well. Magenta confetti was sprinkled throughout the table settings and magenta & purple balloons filled the room.

It was an afternoon filled with girly laughter, blessings and good wishes… Sexy lingerie, silly photos, awesome food and wonderful friends. It was an honor to be a part of of such a momentous occasion for one of my best friends, Dwaynette.hawaii bridal shower, bridal shower, waioli tea room, dwaynette bridal shower, dwaynettehawaii bridal shower, bridal shower, waioli tea room, dwaynette bridal shower, dwaynettehawaii bridal shower, bridal shower, waioli tea room, dwaynette bridal shower, dwaynettehawaii bridal shower, bridal shower, waioli tea room, dwaynette bridal shower, dwaynettehawaii bridal shower, bridal shower, waioli tea room, dwaynette bridal shower, dwaynettehawaii bridal shower, bridal shower, waioli tea room, dwaynette bridal shower, dwaynette

So I’ve been in  l o v e  with this site for quite some time now. It’s my midnight snack. You know, when you’re supposed to be in bed fast asleep, instead you’re rummaging thru the “fridge” for some goodies. This is my “fridge”…  e t s y . c o m . I am like a little kid- giddy, eyes wide open, smile from ear to ear- in a candy shop. Esty, also known as “the world’s handmade marketplace”, has just about anything and everything. Things from art to jewelry, ceramics, bags, furniture, carvings, housewares, vintage stuff, quilts….i can go on and on (and on and on and on…), but why not check it out for yourself. But before you go, go ahead and grab a slice of some leftover pie and a glass of milk (or maybe even some coffee)… you’re gonna be up a while (seriously…they have millions of stuff)

i love pigs!etsy, etsy.com, ceramic pig, diy

one can never have too many aprons (note to hubby: i know mother’s day isn’t for another 4months, but hey, someone’s gotta cook  e v e r y  night, right? ;)etsy, etsy.com, ceramic pig, diy

i’m absolutely obsessed with big, clunky rings….check out these rings made of vintage spoon endsetsy, etsy.com, ceramic pig, diy

There’s so much stuff! Not just for purchase, but to gather inspiration from. If you’re crafty at heart, you’ll love this site.

Okay, I’ll stop there, because needless to say, it took me quite a while to write this post. Warning… e t s y . c o m  can be very (VERY)  a d d i c t i n g  and should not be viewed 1) during finals week, 2) while cooking, 3) when you’re supposed to be in bed and have to get up early the next morning- at which point you might as well not sleep. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

The Best First Dance Ever!

omg. Soooo good. You have to watch this all the way through. The groom, who reminds me of Chris Farley a little bit – is SO AWESOME! I wish my husband would have done this with me. Love it!

Congrats to Tasha & Wayne: Our Favorite December Hawaii Wedding

It was a pleasure to work with the very lovely Tasha and Wayne who celebrated with family and friends on Oahu at the beautiful Outrigger Canoe Club on Dec. 30, 2011. The ceremony took place on the beach, ocean front, directly in front of the more popular surf spot – “Tongs”.. right at sunset. The couple said their own vows which were completely heartfelt and left us nearly (we’ll erika for sure) in tears:) To make things even more cute, guests were greeted with ceremony bubbles and sunglasses for the event. The reception took place 20 or so minutes later at the Outrigger dining area a few feet away. Guests enjoyed amazing candy lollipops made right in front of their eyes complete w/balloon animals by Candy Art Hawaii and had fun with the photo-booth. We’re so excited to see photos and will share them with you in the next few weeks. We were so touched to be a part of such an amazing love story. Congrats you two!! It was such a pleasure:)tasha + wayne, favorite december wedding, favorite december hawaii wedding, hawaii wedding
