Who said white dresses are only for the bride?

I’m sure everyone has heard of the rule that a bride should be the only one to wear white to her wedding.  We just wanted to ruffle a few feathers and say – this may not always be the case! While we adore our brides in white, we also think white can look good on everyone in the wedding party! And truth be told, this is just an old tradition that may absolutely be broken if the bride decides to do so.

We love this bride and bridesmaid switch! The bride stands out in hot pink while the bridesmaids look lovely in white.  A great look for an outdoor garden wedding!

Taking a little inspiration from the royal wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William, we can’t resist how elegant it looks when the bride and her bridesmaid BOTH walk down the aisle in white.

If you have a few bridesmaids and are worried everyone will get lost in a sea of white, try pairing white with another color like this light grey.  Nautical stripes are adorable for a beach themed wedding!

Whether it be the bride or the entire wedding party, white is a versatile color that is meant to be shared!

And here’s the real truth – It’s your wedding! Your special day! Your choice. Whether you choose to be the only one in white or want to do something different and stand out in bright pink.  It is completely up to you. Best Day Ever Hawaii Wedding Planning Tip: Wearing a different color can save you hundreds and even thousands of dollars. The question is, what kind of bride are you?

We’d love to hear your ideas!

Hawaii Wedding Trend: The Brooch Bouquet

Need something old, something new and something blue for your Hawaii Wedding?  My newest find may just be the perfect thing for you!

Introducing the Brooch bouquet! These are vintage inspired pieces that can be crafted from old fashioned jewelry such as necklaces, earrings and pins.   Each bouquet is unique to the bride and best of all these pieces are meant to be kept as keepsakes!

I absolutely LOVE this robin blue color scheme, and the new brooch bouquet has been gaining popularity in recent years – I just had to share:) It can be a great way to have something special you will save forever and brooch bouquets look super cute in photos, especially if you have a Hawaii Shabby Chic, Vintage or Rustic theme.  Each brooch piece is different but the similar shades of blue and hints of silver makes everything meld together effortlessly!

Who is Colins Kawai? Colins is one of our favorite vendors and someone we have grown to really care about.  He is the extremely nice and super easy going.  He is also the owner of Choco le‘a!  Our favorite Hawaii Wedding Chocolate station.  He is really amazing at what he does and loves working with his customers to create pieces that are uniquely theirs.  Want to know more? I know you do!!

Here’s more of our interview with Colins…

What makes your chocolate different?  Our specialty is gourmet, European dark chocolate truffles.  We are chocolate purists, which mean that we refrain from using artificial flavors, colors, powders, or additives, whenever possible.  We use local flavors, such as mochi, haupia, and lychee to create our designer truffles and offer a complete cocktail bar of liqueur truffles, including assorted premium wines, beers, and other spirits.

What kind of experience will the bride and groom have if they hire you? How about their guests?   The bride and groom will feel like royalty at their wedding.  We work closely with our couples asking a lot of questions, and being very attentive to the details.  We will take what we learn to design unique flavors that will create a custom designer chocolate menu for their family and guests.  And, if they come up with a unique flavor, we will name that truffle after them.   We will be their personal chocolatier taking care of the set-up, staffing, clean-up and assistance in answering any questions for them and their guests.

What do your prices start at and what do they include?   We believe in pricing our chocolates affordably.  We offer three prices, $6, $9, and $12 per person.  Our starting price would include free consultations, plus our designer truffle bar/chocolate buffet with up to a dozen truffle varieties, plus dipped cookies and fruits, in season.  Our premium package would include extravagances, such as our Dom Perignon champagne truffles etc.  We would also include a mini-version of our signature truffle bar/chocolate buffet at their bridal shower at no additional cost, among quite a few royal extras.

What have guests said about your chocolates?
Guests are simply amazed by our royal wedding signature truffle bar/chocolate buffet which is designed for lovers of chocolate and chocolate aficionados.

(He’s right – we have seen first hand how much guests fall in love with these chocolates.. think Honolulu Chocolate Company quality but better!  It’s an easy way to make a big impression on guests!)vendor spotlight, chocolea, chocolate, wedding dessert, dessert

Do you do tastings?

Yes, we do make and provide samples.  In addition, we also will host chocolate-tasting parties, which are a LOT of fun!  Our minimum fee is just $300 for a small, intimate group.  Our standard fee starts at $450.

If you have a sweet tooth, the Choco le‘a Chocolate Station could be the perfect solution for your wedding. Extremely elegant, these chocolates always are a big wow factor… We have even seen Colins create solid chocolate frames which held the couples engagement photos.  How cute is that?!

Congrats to Erin & Chris! 8-04-12

Erin and Chris tied the knot at the Ko’olau Ballroom and Golf Course in front of over 350 of their closest friends and family on August 4th, 2012.  Erika and I were honored to be a part of such a special celebration for an amazing couple.

I had first met Erin a few months prior when I was designing a t-shirt logo for her dance company, Embraceology, a really cool dance company/studio which focuses on helping both kids and adults learn self expression as well as life lessons. It just so happened that Erin was also head deep in planning a wedding and needed some help with pulling all the details together… perfect right?

Erika and I set up a meeting with Erin and got to meet Chris (her fiancee) and felt connected to the couple immediately.  The next few months were spent going over tons of details, sorting out timelines, organizing and planning. Before we knew it the big day had arrived.. we had different printed copies timelines for everyone involved, photo lists to execute, signs to put up, sign-in tables to organize and task lists to see through… and we were ready! The ceremony and reception was surely one we will remember forever, a day filled with love and joy and we’re so excited to share a few photos with you all – but first, we have a few thank you’s, as we could not have done it without a team of wonderful vendors and helpers.

Thank You to all who helped make Erin & Chris’s wedding day extra special..
Noe & Grant – You guys were such a huge help and Erin was very lucky to have you both there, especially with the events that transpired the night before. All other bridesmaids and groomsmen – thank you for being so easy to work with!  Shannon Scott ~ you are sooo funny! I don’t know that anyone could have kept a crowd that big entertained for so long! Especially loved the lion dance! Thank you making Erin & Chris’s day flow effortlessly with your emcee skills~!. Walter & Reina – you guys did a great job with the music and sounds.. I know it was no easy task having so many transitions and background sounds, and you really made the event so wonderful! Erin’s sign in table helpers – Shauna, Tara & Tammy… thank you for all your hard work!  I know it was very stressful and moments & there were a few hiccups, but we were able to sort everything out and have everything fall into place – thank you for your help! A Big THANK YOU to Tracy, Cindy, and Aunty June Matsushima for helping make and set up the centerpiece and favor display cards! Everything turned out super cute! Ben & Maila – you guys did a beautiful job, it was amazing to have you sing live as Erin danced hula! Colins & Joan from Chocolea, provided everything from chocolate covered strawberries and oreos to chocolate frames. You both really made the wedding feel like a million bucks! I cannot recommend you enough – you have the best chocolate I have ever tasted! Shawn of Back Tie Cinema – did the photos shown below – pretty spectacular – right?!  Thanks Shawn for all your hard work, and to Sylvie ~ for all your help too! We were so glad you were there to help keep everything moving along! To both Erin and Chris’s parents – thank you for being there for Erin and Chris and for organizing the rehearsal dinner! To Erin’s grandpa – for the beautiful handmade leis! And to Traci ~ what a wonderful video! It was so touching and told Erin & Chris’s story in the most heartwarming way!  To Meri at Ko’olau for helping with all the early details and Jaime at Ko’olauthanks for all your help! Thank you to Ryan Toma (the officiant) – for being a sport and wearing the GoPro camera on your head for Erin and Chris and for the beautiful heartfelt ceremony! You did a wonderful job! To ECDC (Erin & Chris’s Dance Crew) and Mandi who helped coordinate… the show was so fun and all the guests loved it!  We know there were many others who assisted, so to all other family and friends who helped – thank you!!!  And lastly – and perhaps most importantly, Thank you to Erin and Chris for trusting us with your special day, it was an honor to be a part of the start of what is sure to be an amazing life of love together. We love you both and wish you the best !!

A Destination Wedding Come True! Congratulations Jason & Bianca! 8.03.12

Jason and Bianca tied the knot on the east coast of the beautiful island of Oahu at Waimanalo Bay Beach Park this past Friday!  It was a gorgeous day with light winds and just the right amount of sun. Turquoise waters surrounded the us and sunshine peaked through at the most perfect moments.  Although it was our first time meeting Bianca and Jason in person, with all the planning and talk of their wedding going on for the past few months, we felt as though we had known them forever.

Jason + Bianca 8/03/12 Waimanalo Bay Beach Park

We arrived on site about 2hrs early to pick up all the flowers and set the ceremony up.  We made sure to put signage up and balloons so that guests would know where to go.  We had to clear a few people out of the way, to make some space for the ceremony, but nobody minded, everybody knows how important a wedding day is!  Soon Kahu Bruce, the officiant arrived and our ukulele player Mike Izon.  The four of us (Kahu, Mike, Erika & I) waited patiently for the rest of the party and bride and groom to arrive. All the planning and preparation was coming together ~ how very exciting!!

When the wedding bus finally arrived we had Kahu go over the ceremony with the guests and soon the most beautiful bride I have ever seen made her way down the isle.  Bianca and Jason had a very traditional Hawaiian ceremony that was also very personalized and heartfelt.  We felt honored to be a part of it & I will admit to tearing up a little bit when I saw Bianca tearing up..  It is obvious how much you two love each other and we do hope your beach wedding was everything you had imagined and more:) We wish you both an amazing rest of your Hawaiian vacation and do hope you and your family enjoyed the ceremony festivities as much as we did.  Cheers to your Best Day Ever!

Thank YOU >> A special thanks to Kahu Bruce.  The ceremony was perfect! Thank you for helping us make Bianca and Jason’s day so special!  Also to Mike Izon, the background ukulele music really helped to set the mood.  And your purple shirt matched perfectly:) To Todd of Always Flowers – Seriously amazing – everything you, do all the time, Please thank Aunty for us too!  The petals, as you can see really made Biancas day amazing!  And last but not least – our favorite hawaii wedding photographerShannon! Love working with you:) Can’t wait to see the photos! Thank you all ~ We could not have done it without you! And again ~
