A Perfect North Shore Oahu Destination Wedding! Congratulations Michael & Jennifer ~

Michael & Jennifer had a perfect Hawaii Destination Wedding on the North Shore of Oahu, last week Saturday ~ January 12, 2013.  Surrounded by their closest friends and family the two tied the knot at Papailoa Beach in front of a gorgeous sunset.

The day didn’t start off so perfect though.. and I just thought I’d share this story since many of you often wonder, What happens if it rains?  Will my Hawaii Beach Ceremony be ruined?!!

Well, lets start from the beginning . . .

Michael got in touch with us about a month before their big day.  Usually we have a little more time, but we were able to get together all the details rather quickly and everything was falling into place.  The photographer, officiant and musician were booked.  Flowers were ordered, timelines were created and beach and dinner options had been researched.

Michael & Jennifer decided on Papailoa beach at my recommendation.  Papailoa beach is a beautiful beach on the North Shore of Oahu.  The perfect place to say “I do”.

Before we knew it it their big day was here, the flowers had been picked up, the truck was loaded up and were heading up to the North Shore a few hours early to do the set up.  I had already checked the weather and tide reports, and although there was a 20% chance of rain (and it had been pretty rainy this past week), today it was beautiful out so I wasn’t worried.

We got to the back up location and checked that out and then went to the beach to check that out as well.  I realized we had a lot of extra time so Kelli and I went to get some Shaved Ice right down the street.  I mean you kind of have to do this if your on the North Shore, right?

Then we headed back to the beach location and began setting up.  I put up balloons at the turn and at the beach entrance so that the vendors and the bride and groom could find the beach.

We made a few trips back and fourth from the truck and soon had everything we needed on site and began setting up.  I always make a cute little pathway for the bride and groom to walk down and sprinkle the path and the “I do” site with petals right before the couple arrives.

I put up the other wooden signs.  I have a “ceremony”, “wedding” and “Best Day Ever” sign that I place in the area so that tourists won’t “walk by” in the middle of the ceremony, ruining their pictures.  And then…

It started  P O U R I N G  buckets!

I brought a tent but it was in the car so I ran back to get it. Kelli meanwhile tried to pull all our stuff together and hid out under a little tree.  This was not a drizzle or even a steady rain, it was seriously pouring buckets of water.  Everyone was running off the beach.  The pathway had gotten all muddy and the sunshine that was out a minute ago was now completely gone.

It was raining so hard my dress, hair and all my papers were completely soaked.  It was not worth it to get the tent at this point so I ran back to get Kelli and we waited out the rain in the truck.  I gave the bride and groom a call to let them know the situation and left them a message saying if the rain didn’t clear by 4:30 I’d suggest moving to the back-up location. I was constantly checking the radar report and there was no way to really tell what was going to happen next.

I’d love to show you a picture of what Kelli and I looked like, mascara streaming down our faces, our dresses both dripping wet and drenched and hair all a mess, but we didn’t have the foresight to take a photo, though looking back now I really wish I did, it would have been hilarious.

LUCKILY, just as the photographer arrived, the rain started to slow to a drizzle and within 15 minutes, it almost completely stopped.  At 4:30pm (15 minutes before the ceremony was supposed to start), I made the call to stay at Papailoa Beach.

The bride and groom were running a bit late and so by the time they got to the beach, the sky was absolutely beautiful, a few rain clouds in the distance but otherwise completely clear.  The earlier rain storm had completely cleared out the beach, so we had the whole beach to ourselves (almost).  And the sun was just about to set over the mountain.

The sand was a bit wet, but nobody minded, it was perfect!  Friends and family gathered around the ceremony area & it was time for the bride to walk down the isle.
Congratulations Mr & Mrs Michael Conrad!

So as you can see ~ even with the rain (which we like to call “blessings” – in this case, Michael & Jennifer got a whole bunch of “blessings”), everything turned out perfectly.

I can’t wait to see Ashley’s photos. I’m sure they are sooo amazing! The light was perfect and the bride and groom were pretty perfect too:)

Congratulations to the beautiful bride Jennifer and handsome groom Michael, now Officially MR & MRS Conrad!  We were honored to be a part of such a special day and hope you are enjoying the rest of your Hawaii Honeymoon vacation.

Cheers to your “Best Day Ever!”

Sincerely,

Nicole
