DIY Mondays ~ How to use Hawaii’s Foliage to create a Beautiful Tropical Light

We love this DIY project found on one of our favorite blogs OnceWed which teaches you how to create a beautiful tropical light with leaves found right in our own backyard.  Here in Hawaii, we have tons of tropical foliage everywhere, why shouldn’t we incorporate these beautiful plants into our weddings?  Here’s a simple step by step on exactly how to create this light for yourself.

How to create a light from Monstera Leaves:

Step 1: Get the wire frame from a standard (large) white paper lantern
Step 2: Find two giant monstera leaves and wire them around the frame, making sure to secure the edges and keep the pendant round.
Step 3: Wanna get fancier?  Hang it from a metallic gold rope and secure with a nice little knot. You could even hang a vintage/edison clear light bulb if you have the electrical wiring around or it can be off the grid if you use a little battery-powered click-on LED light.

This DIY tropical Monstera leaf pendant light would be a great addition to any destination wedding, or Hawaii wedding.  The best part – it’s super simple to do! They would look great with natural wood tables and simple tropical centerpieces.

Hope you enjoyed today’s DIY tip~ Happy Monday!

Step 3: Punch hole at top (as shown above) and then fold over the top of the cone to create a nice round shape that will hold the petals or rice.  Fill with petals or rice.

Step 4: Punch a hole in the center as shown below and then thread the butterfly wire through the top hole, line tag up with the hole in the body of the cone. Thread wire through tag and body hole (from the top down). Note: the butterfly will secure the petal cone shut.
