Adam + Jessica Share the Aloha! Wedding Flower Donations

A BIG MAHALO to Adam and Jessica, who tied the knot at JW Marriott Ihilani Ko Olina Resort on August 12, 2014, and donated over 3 dozen beautiful wedding centerpieces and bouquets to our Share the Aloha Program!

This was the first time I personally dropped off floral donations to our participating nursing homes and it was an absolutely AMAZING experience 🙂  With Adam and Jessica’s donations, we were able to bring so many smiles to residents at the Plaza at Punchbowl, Island Nursing Home, Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women and Children, Shriners Children’s Hospital, and Hale Nohea.

Meeting the residents at the nursing homes was so much fun and the way their eyes lit up as I gave them the flowers was so precious.  They all said they loved the colors, which were beautiful shades of purple, blue, and white, and were just so grateful for the thoughtful and beautiful gift.  Because there were a lot of centerpieces, we were also able to decorate around the offices of each nursing home and hit dozens of residents at 3 nursing homes, the childrens cancer floor at Kapiolani Childrens Hospital, and the kids at Shriners Hospital 🙂

Thank you Adam and Jessica for your beautiful donations!!  You guys are amazing and your flowers definitely did not go to waste!

Cory & Lorraine – Share the Aloha! Fairytale Wedding Centerpieces Donated to a Good Cause!

Cory and Frenchie tied the knot at Dillingham Ranch on O’ahu Hawaii, on May 24th, 2014. They also very graciously donated over a dozen wedding centerpieces to our Share the Aloha program!

These flowers were nothing short of amazing and were created by the fabulous Yvonne of Yvonne Designs!  They were gigantic and overflowing with peonies, phalaenopsis orchids, garden roses and hydrangeas. Beautiful shades of pink, ivory and white.

The staff, and the residents at Island Nursing Home were thrilled! I split up several of the arrangements so that more of the residents could get flowers, and the dining room was adorned with flowers as well.

Thank you to Cory & Frenchie for your generous donations! There were tons of smiles, hugs and even a few tears of joy, thanks to you! 🙂

Share the Aloha: Nicolette & William Donate their Wedding Flowers making seniors smile at Island Nursing Home!

On Sunday November 25th, 2012, Nicolette & William had their “Best Day Ever“~ ! 🙂 And two days later, a few special seniors at Island Nursing Home and Pearl City Nursing Home had their “Best Day Ever” when they received a wonderful surprise, a gorgeous arrangement of hydrangea’s, roses, daisies and cymbidiums!  . . . Nicolette & William’s beautiful wedding flowers!

How it all came to be …  Lorrie, one of our favorite bride to be’s contacted me a week earlier to let me know that one of her friends, Nicolette, was getting married and wanted to donate a few of her wedding florals.  Of course we were very excited and gave our friends at Island Nursing Home and Pearl City Nursing home a call right away to let them know we’d have some lovely deliveries coming soon.  I then worked out the details with Nicolette and two days after her wedding, I had a beautiful large floral arrangement and two small bouquets.

Being the thrifty Chinese girl that I am, I decided to pull all the flowers out of the one large arrangement to create eight new arrangements.  All the stems were trimmed and the brown petals were pulled off.  I then neatly packed all the vases into boxes for traveling and we were off!share the aloha, best day ever hawaii, nicolette and william, flower donations, donate wedding flowers, island nursing

Erika did the deliveries out in Pearl City, spending time with three very happy ladies out at Pearl City Nursing Home. Unfortunately we aren’t allowed to take photos there, but Denby part of the nursing home’s staff graciously posed for a pic.

That same day I headed out to Island Nursing home and spent time with three lovely ladies and one handsome man. All were so thrilled to be getting the arrangements and could not believe that Nicolette and William would share their wedding flowers with them.  “Are you sure I don’t know her?” one of the ladies said, “She looks very familiar!”.  I always love to show them the bride and grooms pic.. and they love it too.

Honestly, these donation days are my favorite days, I see how much joy a little visit and few floral arrangements bring and I’m brought to tears almost every time.  It’s pretty amazing to see the flowers come full circle.

Share the Aloha ~ Flower Donations continue to make a Difference with Hawaii’s Kupuna

We received an email from the lovely bride Laurel a few weeks ago inquiring about our Hawaii Flower Donation Program ~ Share the Aloha.  Laurel was getting married in Hawaii on June 5th (yesterday) and wanted to donate her bouquet to a greater cause. I was very excited and immediately set the details up on when and where to meet, and then yesterday afternoon I ventured into Waikiki to meet Laurel and her husband to be ~ Dan.

The beautiful bride and groom ~ Laurel & Dan Tie the Knot! Congratulations you two!  Thank you so much for your generous donation.. I am happy to say you made one little lady ~ named Elsie very happy!

Elsie is 93 years old.. and she resides at Manoa Senior Care in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Some of the residents at senior care homes (at least the ones that we have been too) don’t often get a lot of visitors, so when they do get one, they hold on to you and don’t want to let you go:) … this was Elsie.  I told her about Laurel and she could not believe that a beautiful bride would want to give her flowers to such an old lady. I told her, it’s because she was special and then she proceeded to tell me stories about how  beautiful she used to be and how she looked like “the girl from Hawaii Five-0, but with bigger boobies.”  I told her she was still very beautiful.

We stuck around and hung out, talking story with Elsie for a while and listening to her stories about her very handsome nephews and how she was the one who discovered, how you should use Aloe on your face to make it very beautiful – “So much better than those expensive face creams!” she said.  Hanging out with Elsie made me miss my grandma…  the ways she was so blunt and matter of factly. She always told it as it was and was the sweetest woman I know~ Elsie was just as sweet:)  My grandma passed away in December of 2010, and inspired me to start this flower donation program… spending time with these lovely ladies, always takes me back to all the time I got to spend with her.  I could not imagine a more wonderful way to spend a Friday morning.

If any Hawaii Brides would like to make a donation, we’d love to hear from you!  It’s super easy and you can donate just a bouquet or a single centerpiece, or a whole bunch of flowers, its up to you.  If we can take pictures, we will.. but sometimes at certain health facilities we are not allowed to.  We will always try to send you an email to let you know who your flowers went to.  Want more details on Oahu’s only Wedding Flower Donation Program? Click Here. We pick up the flowers, and it’s completely free!  Make a difference today! Our e-mail address is: dropaline@besdayeverhawaii.com

Thank’s again to Laurel, Dan and all the staff at Manoa Senior Care. We really appreciate all your help:)

Share the Aloha has partnered with the Plaza at Punchbowl!

We have some new and exciting news! Our flower donation program “Share the Aloha” has just partnered with the senior care facilities – Plaza Assisted Living, which includes: the Plaza at Punchbowl, Plaza at Mililani and soon, the Plaza at Moanalua!  This is pretty exciting because now we have an even wider range of people who we can reach and really help to make a difference with. Currently our Hawaii Wedding Flower Donation program makes regular deliveries to Kapiolani Medical Center (children’s cancer floor), four different Manoa Senior Care homes and now Plaza Assisted Living facilities;)

If you would like to donate your wedding flowers, please send us an e-mail at dropaline@bestdayeverhawaii.com Today!  It’s super easy – and FREE! Just give us a call and we’ll figure out the best time/place for pick-up and we handle all the other details… If we are allowed to take photos (only a few facilities allow pics), we will send you photos so you can see just how many hearts your flowers have touched.

Unfortunately the Plaza at Punchbowl did not allow photos with the residents, due to privacy policies, HOWEVER.. the staff was happy to take a few pics with the Best Day Ever – Hawaii Wedding Planning Team!

I just wanted to share a little bit about our first delivery at the Plaza at Punchbowl.  We arrived last week, early one morning, very excited to meet a bunch of new friends.  We came stocked with several oh so pretty flower donations from one of our favorite Hawaii couples – Sarah and David and were able to spend a little over an hour at the gorgeous Plaza at Punchbowl, meeting and greeting residents.  We talked story, gave hugs and spent a little time with about 25 different residents, hand-delivering each of the beautiful floral arrangements.  I really have to say – it’s always, such a really wonderful experience. There’s nothing better than seeing their faces light up! Most can’t even believe that someone would think of them, let alone bring them such beautiful flowers. My favorite part is giving each resident a hug after I’ve spent a little bit of time hearing about their day.  Some of the residents hold on to me so tight and some even start crying… Its so very touching and for all of you who have donated flowers, you really do make such a difference in so many lives.

Each of the floral arrangements came complete with a card from Sarah and David and Best Day Ever, Hawaii Wedding Planners. Sarah and David rented vases from one of our favorite Hawaii Floral Designers: Debbie Hemingway – so I took all the flowers back to my house in large buckets and then re-vased them before delivering them out to the Plaza at Punchbowl.

Best Day Ever ~ Hawaii Wedding Planners

Share the Aloha 2.20.12

Erika and I just finished a big Hawaii Outdoor Beach Wedding for a beautiful couple Mary Despe & Tony Perrault on February 18th, 2012. Mary and Tony were gracious enough to join in our efforts to bring a smile to those who could use a little day brightening and donate a bunch of their centerpieces to four of Manoa Senior Care Homes and Kapiolani Medical Center (childrens cancer floor). On the day after their Wedding we spent the morning re-freshening their floral arrangements and writing cards for the seniors and kids signed from “Best Day Ever” and Mary & Tony. We then drove the florals over to the four senior care homes and met so many wonderful new friends. I will honestly say it was just an amazing experience. They were all gleaming… they were SO happy!  Here are some of the photos.waikane wedding, hawaii wedding, oahu wedding, mary and tony, best day ever hawaii, outdoor wedding

It took a few hours to freshen up the florals that got a bit wind blown from the Hawaii Beach Wedding, but it was well worth it!

One of the residents at Manoa Senior Care was so happy to get the the flowers with her personalized card that when she hugged me, she held on and wouldn’t let go… Then I realized she was crying. Tears of joy! She had to keep lifting up her glasses to wipe her eyes. I will admit to tearing up as well. One little vase of flowers made her so happy. Really makes you appreciate the little things in life:)

mary and tonyPhoto Above. Setting up all the arrangements and prepping them for the car drive at my house in the morning.

I spent some time with Helen from Manoa Senior Care, she was so excited she kept saying “WoWiE. WoWie. wOwie!” and kept making these funny faces, filled with excitement that she had visitors AND flowers!

Meanwhile, Erika was hanging out with Jane. Jane promised to change the water and freshen up the flowers daily. She said she would check on her roommates flowers as well. How cute! She also ran outside of the house to wave goodbye to us and thank us for visiting! We’ll be back Jane:)

And then there was Yuki. Yuki who “Loves Flowers” said she would make sure her arrangement lasted for two weeks. She even stopped playing Sodoku to pose for a photo and give me a hug. I love grandma hugs. They squeeze your hand as and hug you really tightly as though to let you know they love you.. without words.

waikane wedding, hawaii wedding, oahu wedding, mary and tony, best day ever hawaii, outdoor wedding

We also made a special trip to Kapiolani Medical Center and left the florals with Lisa Chung. We were told that the arrangements would go to special children on the cancer floor who needed a little cheering up. Unfortunately due to privacy rules, we could not visit or take photos. But – We are sure that the kids who received the special flowers and cards did have a big smile for the rest of the day. A special thanks to Mary and Tony for donating many of their beautiful centerpieces!

If anyone else would like to donate some of their floral arrangements to our “Share the Aloha” project, we would be happy to pick them up and make special visits for you. Click here to learn more about “Share the Aloha”. We always post photos and will let you know exactly who you are bringing a BIG smile to. PS>You do not have to be our client to donate florals:)
